9 Days Prime Kenya Safari

Experience the wildlife and culture in Kenya through visiting national parks such as the Maasai Mara, Aberdare, Lake Nakuru and Samburu. These destinations have abundant wildlife such as big five mammals, different species of birds, tree species and rare animal species such as lions, elephants, cheetahs, zebras, gazelles, hippos, crocodiles, rhinos among others.

Resident birds like vultures, Secretary birds, Hornbills, Crowned cranes, Ostriches and flamingos can be highly expected.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Jommo Kenyatta international Airport and transfer to a hotel

Welcome to Kenya and the assigned driver guide will pack your luggage in the tourist vehicle and take you to the overnight hotel in Nairobi. In case you arrive in time, you will visit some city attractions like the national museum, giraffe manor or Nairobi national park. You can also take an option of night life in the city after your dinner at 8:00 pm.

Day 2: Travel to Samburu NP

Enjoy a spiced breakfast and travel to Samburu national park, a journey taking 6-7 hours covering a distance of 387kilomters. The park is located in north –central Kenya in Samburu district covering an area of 165 square kilometres and filled with abundant wildlife not found elsewhere in Kenya, such as African Darter, Great Egret, White-headed Vulture, Martial Eagle and the Yellow-billed Ox-pecker, lion, cheetah and African leopard can also be found here, elephant, Cape buffalo and hippopotamus, olive baboon, warthogs, Grant’s gazelle, Kirk’s dik-dik, impala, and waterbuck, rhinoceros among others. Check in the lodge and take a short game drive in the evening to explore some of the park residents.

Day 3: Full day Samburu NP tour

Tour the beauty of this park with a full day game drive that will take you through the plains of this park and see animals like the lion, cheetah and African leopard, elephant, Cape buffalo and hippos among others and also may bird species such as e guinea fowl, yellow-necked spur fowl, a lilac-breasted roller among others.

The park ranger will help to give you full explanations to all the attractions that are discovered while on the game viewing safari. You will have a lunch picnic in the middle of the savannah and retreat to the lodge for dinner later in the evening.

Day 5: Drive to Aberdare national park

Drive to Aberdare national park, a journey taking 5 hours covering a distance of 224 kilometres. The park is a home different mammals such as lions, elephants, leopards, wild dogs, forest hog, buffalos, eland, Sykes monkeys, olive baboons among others.

On arrival, you will take an evening game drive to spot several animals. Also Aberdare is a hub for different bird species like augur buzzards, African paradise flycatcher, African green pigeon, cinnamon-chested bee-eater among others.

Day 6: Drive to Lake Nakuru from Aberdare NP

Take an early game drive in Aberdare national park to spot early risers like the lions, leopards, jackals among others. After a mid-breakfast, transfer to Lake Nakuru NP that got its name from the lake that occupies most of the area in the park.

This lake is found in the rift valley, has soda ash and covered by flamingos making the lake look pink. Mammals you can find in this park are Cape buffalo, African wild dog, zebra, eland, waterbuck and lion, giraffes, leopards among others. And birds like great white pelicans, greater flamingos, lesser flamingos, greater Blue-eared starling among others.

Day 7: Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara NP

Take a morning game drive in the valleys of the park and transfer to Maasai Mara after a spiced mid-breakfast.

Maasai Mara n/park is a home to the largest population mammals in Kenya such as lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras and hippos and also, Wildebeest and zebras traverse its plains during their annual migration.

Over 450 birds like kori bustard, secretary bird, southern ground hornbill, among others call this savannah park home. The park is surrounded by the vibrant Maasai people, who are believed to be the original inhabitants of this park. The park is crossed by river Mara and Talek with rolling hills and grassy plains landscape.

Day 8: Full day exploration of Maasai Mara N/P

You will start a game drive at 7:00 am and head to the rolling plains of the park where you will spot lions, buffalo and elephants, often in great numbers. Opportunities to spot elusive cats like Leopards and stripped hyenas are high and can be seen early morning or late in the evening.

This full-day safari in Maasai Mara is rewarding as you spot most of the animals in a single game drive. Lunch will be a picnic in the wilderness and this will make you feel the beauty of this park’s open savannah. A full day game viewing safari will enable you to cover a quite wide range of the park, and return to your lodge in the evening.

Day 9: Transfer back to Nairobi and fly back home

Enjoy a cup of tea at the lodge and transfer to Nairobi national park and a drop off at Jommo Kenyatta where you will get your scheduled flight back home.
