5 Days Uganda Gorillas & Wildlife Safari

A 5 days Uganda wildlife safari and gorilla trekking takes you to the two national parks in Uganda (Queen Elizabeth National Park & Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park).

In these five days, you will encounter Uganda’s equator line, tea plantations, Rwenzori mountains, craft markets, mammals like red tailed monkeys, olive baboons, duikers, bush pigs, golden cats, buffaloes, elephants and birds like African green pigeon, African harrier hawk, crowned hornbill among others.

This is a really rewarding experience full of memories, starting and ending in Kampala or Entebbe.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Queen Elizabeth national park

Travel to Queen Elizabeth after breakfast at the lodge or after pick up at the airport. Use road transport using Kampala-Mityana- Fort portal-Kasese highway. The road trip is rewarding as you view several attractions like tea plantations, hills, rocks, Rwenzori mountain ranges, meandering river and also get involved in a lot of stopovers, in Fort portal for lunch and the whole journey can take 6 – 7 hours.

Queen Elizabeth National park is the second largest national park in Uganda and famous for its rare tree climbing lions. Other attractions in the park are Kazinga channel that stretches from Lake Edward to George and this harbours crocodiles and largest number of hippos worldwide.

Also, it is home to crater lakes like Nyamunuka which act as a hospital for wild animals, mammals like elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, bush bucks, oribis, warthogs among others. Check in your accommodation facility for dinner and night stay.

Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise

Head for an early game drive in the Mweya peninsular where you will be able to spot a number of early raisers like jackals, lions, leopards, spotted hyenas and others like duikers, water bucks, bush bucks, Uganda kobs, elephants, buffaloes among others. This can take 2-3 hours driving amidst the open plains of Queen Elizabeth N/park.

In the afternoon, head to Kazinga channel to be able to catch up with a scheduled boat cruise to take you around the channel as you spot schools of hippos, crocodiles and bird species like the African fish eagle among others. You will transfer back to the lodge for your pre-arranged dinner.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

An early game drive in the park and head to the Ishasha sector to be able to spot the rare tree climbing lions. After, head to Bwindi impenetrable national park famous for endangered mountain gorillas.

The park is also a home to other primates like red tailed monkeys, olive baboons, duikers, bush pigs, golden cats, buffaloes, elephants and birds like African green pigeon, African harrier hawk, crowned hornbill among others.

The road trip rewards you with beautiful landscape of Kigezi highland and Ankole farms with long horned cattle. The journey can take 4-5 hours and on arrival, you will check in the lodge.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking

An exciting day starts with early morning breakfast, and straight away head for briefing where you will receive trekking instructions like wearing long sleeved clothes, hiking shoes, flash lights are prohibited and also receive the history about Bwindi forest, gorilla families among others.

Other attractions you may meet include red tailed monkeys, bush pigs, olive baboons, duikers, golden cats, elephants, buffaloes and birds like African harrier hawk, African green pigeon, crowned hornbill, among others. After 2-4 hours of trekking, you will head back to the lodge for lunch and relax.

Day 5: Depart from Bwindi N/Park to Kampala/Entebbe

Depart to Kampala via Mbarara – Masaka road and have a stopover at the Uganda equator in Kayabwe for photography and geographical experiment. A drop off at the airport in Entebbe or hotel in Kampala which will be the end of 5 days budget Uganda wildlife and gorilla safari.
