5 Days Uganda Gorillas & Wildlife Safari

A 5 days Uganda gorillas & wildlife safari takes you to some of the two popular national parks in the country. These are Queen Elizabeth National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. In these five days, you experience the equator line, tea plantations, Rwenzori mountains, craft markets and mammals. The latter includes red tailed monkeys, olive baboons, duikers, bush pigs, golden cats, buffaloes, and elephants. Birds there include African green pigeon, African harrier hawk, crowned hornbill among others. This is a really rewarding experience full of memories, starting and ending in Kampala or Entebbe.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Travel to Queen Elizabeth after breakfast at the lodge or after pick up at the airport. Use road transport using Kampala-Mityana- Fort portal-Kasese highway. The road trip offers views of several attractions like tea plantations, hills, rocks, Rwenzori mountain ranges and meandering river. Also, get involved in a lot of stopovers, in Fort Portal for lunch.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is the second largest national park in Uganda and famous for its rare tree climbing lions. Other attractions in the park are Kazinga channel that stretches from Lake Edward to George. These harbor crocodiles and one of the largest numbers of hippos worldwide.

Also, it is home to crater lakes like Nyamunuka which act as a hospital for wild animals. Elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, bush bucks, oribis, warthogs etc. visit this place. Check in your accommodation for dinner and night stay.

Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise

Head for a game drive in the Mweya peninsular where you spot a number of early raisers. Many jackals, lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, duikers, waterbucks, bushbucks, Uganda kobs, elephants, buffaloes among others. This can take 2-3 hours driving amidst the open plains of Queen Elizabeth N/park.

In the afternoon, head to Kazinga channel to be able to catch up with a scheduled boat cruise. This takes you around the channel as you spot schools of hippos, crocodiles. Birds like the African fish eagle among others can be seen around. You will transfer back to the lodge for your pre-arranged dinner.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

An early game drive in the park and head to Ishasha to spot the rare tree climbing lions. After, head to Bwindi impenetrable National Park, famous for endangered mountain gorillas. The park is also home to other primates like red-tailed monkeys and olive baboons. Find duikers, bush pigs, golden cats, buffaloes, and elephants. Meanwhile birds like African green pigeon, African harrier hawk, crowned hornbill among others can be seen. The road trip rewards you with beautiful landscape of Kigezi highland and Ankole farms with long horned cattle. The journey can take 4-5 hours and on arrival, you will check in the lodge.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking

An exciting day starts with early morning breakfast, and straight away head for briefing in the forest. Receive trekking instructions like wearing long sleeved clothes, hiking shoes, wide-brimmed hat and have a flash light. Also, receive the history about Bwindi forest, gorilla families among others.

Other attractions you may meet include red tailed monkeys, bush pigs, olive baboons, duikers, golden cats, and elephants. More attractions include buffaloes and birds like African harrier hawk, African green pigeon, crowned hornbill, among others. After 2-4 hours of trekking, you will head back to the lodge for lunch and relax.

Day 5: Depart from Bwindi N/Park to Kampala/Entebbe

Depart to Kampala via Mbarara – Masaka road and have a stopover at the Uganda equator in Kayabwe. Do this for the photography and geographical experiments. A drop off at the airport in Entebbe or hotel in Kampala is next. This marks the end of your 5 days Uganda gorillas & wildlife safari.
