3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Safari

Uganda presents to you a 3 days Bwindi gorilla safari. Meet face-to-face with the world’s most sought after primates and human’s close relatives – the mountain gorillas. Bwindi forest boasts up to 50% of total world’s population of mountain gorillas. Some 23 gorilla families have been well habituated to allow daily human interaction. This tour also presents opportunities to spot other forest dwellers such as red-tailed monkeys, chimpanzees, and baboons. Other animals include forest elephants, cape buffaloes, and bush pigs. etc.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Bwindi impenetrable National Park

After an early morning breakfast, embark on an 8-hour journey to the southwest of Uganda, specifically to Bwindi. In the “Rushaga gorilla sector” an experience with the world’s greatest and endangered species – the mountain gorillas happens daily.

Lunch enroute will be at Igongo cultural center, 12km off Mbarara town. We consider this a place to get authentic culture of Ankole and Kiga people. Here, you get your lunch and continue your journey to the park. Find dinner and an overnight stay in a pre-booked lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and culture encounter

Have an early breakfast, head for a briefing about the trek. Later start to track the gorillas at 8:00 am. A group of 8 individuals is allowed to trek through the jungle for the gorillas. Still you will encounter other forest species like birds, colobus monkeys and chimpanzees. Take about 2 to 6 hours.

Get a chance to experience lifestyle, behavior and habits of these species in their natural habitat. This is because you find them playing, feeding and sometimes fighting. You will only be allowed to spend one hour with each gorilla family. Later, trek down to the starting point for picnic lunch and drive for afternoon relaxation at lodge.

In the evening, go for Batwa culture tour in the nearby village that contains 100 homesteads of the Twa people. These are former bush men that lived in harmony with the mountain gorillas in Bwindi Forest. Moreover, they depended entirely on fruit gathering and hunting wild animals for survival. But they were later forced out of the forest when Bwindi was gazetted a world heritage site in early 1990s.

Day 3: Transfer from Bwindi to Kampala

After a refreshing breakfast at the lodge, prepare for a swift journey to Kampala. Pass via the beautiful scenery of Lake Bunyonyi and its 29 islands. Continue with your journey to your accommodation or Entebbe airport for your flight.
