Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Bwindi impenetrable national park

After an early morning breakfast, embark on an 8-hour journey to the south western of Uganda to Bwindi impenetrable forest in “Rushaga gorilla sector” in Kisoro, for a spectacular trek of the world’s greatest and endangered species – the mountain gorillas.

Lunch enroute will be at Igongo cultural center, 12km off Mbarara town; it is also a perfect place to get to the authentic culture of Ankole and Kiga people and so many other cultures in south western Uganda. Here you will have lunch and continue your journey to the park where you will have dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and culture encounter

Have an early morning breakfast, head for a briefing about the trek and later start your trek of the gorillas at 8:00 am. A group of 8 individuals will be allowed to trek through the jungle for the gorillas where still you will encounter other forest species like birds, Colobus monkeys and chimpanzees, and this will take about 2 to 6 hours.

Get a chance to experience lifestyle, behavior and habits of these species in their natural habitat as you see them play, feed and sometimes fight. You will only be allowed to spend one hour with each gorilla family, and later trek down to the starting point for picnic lunch and drive for afternoon relaxation at lodge.

In the evening, go for Batwa culture tour in the nearby village which is home to over 100 homesteads of the Twa people. These are former bush men that lived in harmony with the mountain gorillas in Bwindi and depended entirely on fruit gathering and hunting wild animals for survival, but were later forced out of the forest when Bwindi was gazetted a world heritage site in early 1990s.

Day 3: Transfer from Bwindi to Kampala

After a refreshing breakfast at the lodge, prepare for a swift journey to Kampala, where you will pass via the beautiful scenery of Lake Bunyonyi and the islands. Continue with your journey back to Kampala where you will have night stay or exit through Entebbe airport to your next destination.
