Tour one of the islands in Lake Victoria that is a home of orphaned chimpanzees that are rescued from all over the country. The tour involves a boat cruise on Lake Victoria – the third largest water body and second fresh water body in the world that will take 1-2 hours both to and from the island.
You will also cross the equator in the middle of Lake Victoria, visit the Entebbe Zoo (Uganda wildlife education canter) in Entebbe to explore the wildlife in captive such as the big five mammals, birdlife, cats, primates and antelopes.
Detailed itinerary
You will be picked from your hotel room in Kampala or Entebbe and transfer to Uganda wildlife education centre pier on the shores of Lake Victoria in Entebbe at around 8:00 am to catch up with the scheduled boat cruise. The boat journey takes 1-2 hours covering a distance of 40km.
You should know that the island is located in the interior of Lake Victoria and has a number of attractions, other than the chimps like monitor lizards, different bird species like spotted neck kingfisher, African eagle, weaver birds and much more, as well as vast species of butterflies.
While on the boat, you will experience the Uganda equator in the middle of the lake, either make a stopover or take distant photos as the boat captain or tour guide explains its uniqueness.
You will be welcomed on arrival at the sanctuary, and head for briefing about the chimpanzees, history about the project and the sanctuary at large. After briefing, head to the bridge and watch the chimpanzees as they play, feed and relate with each in a semi-natural environment. After, head for an African lunch buffet at an onsite restaurant as you watch over the Lake Victoria waters.
Head for a return boat cruise that will take you back to Entebbe and you can visit the Uganda wildlife education centre to spot more wildlife in captive such as the lions, giraffes, cheetah crocodiles, olive baboons, rhinos, elephants and much more, also birds like the shoe bill stalk, the grey crowned crane, ostrich, parrot, among others can be spotted. Later transfer to the hotel in Entebbe/Kampala and this will be the end of your 1 day Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary tour.
