Detailed itinerary

Start your 1 day Ziwa rhino trekking safari with an early breakfast at the lodge and hit Kampala-Gulu Highway. Drive for 3 hours, passing through Luwero district, well known for its historical liberation wars. On reaching this town, you will buy fresh fruits like yellow bananas, jack fruits, pineapples, and passion fruits. These are locally grown and natives earn a living from this roadside trade.

After a break of about 15 minutes, proceed through the plains of Nakasongola – the land known for cattle keepers and rocky hills. Arrive at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, before it is afternoon time. Head for the briefing to understand more about the history of rhinos. The ranger guides also educate you about the sanctuary and conservation efforts. Other attractions in this sanctuary are the crocodiles, hippos, bushbucks, Uganda kobs, duikers, oribis, and birds like booted eagle, broad billed roller, Abyssinian ground hornbill, blue spotted dove and the shoe bill stork.
