White water rafting is an active outdoor adventure experience that is usually undertaken by not-the-faint hearted and those that desire to explore the Nile. It can only be done in the adventure capital of Jinja and visitors ought to come prepared for a memorable experience. Not until recently, visitors had options of doing full day rafting and half day rafting tours, but after construction of hydro power, water levels / pressure reduced rendering only a memorable half day rafting experience. White water rafting begins early enough, with a shuttle transfer from Kampala and arrive in Jinja at 8:30am when the adventure begins.
Itinerary details.
An early morning pick up from a common location Kampala, we begin the journey to Jinja in the east. The transfer lasts for about 2 hours depending on traffic, so by 8:00am you will have arrived.
Along the way, you can stop by Mabira forest and numerous tea and sugarcane plantations just to have amazing views of the morning sunrise. Mabira forest is home to beautiful birds, butterflies, and some primates which you can spot in the middle of the road.
Drop off at Nalubaale rafting offices where you will have a warm breakfast and briefing be held thereafter. The briefing entails what you expect during the rafting experience, how to use the rafting gear, and general information about River Nile.
Later transfer to the starting point with your gear to begin this amazing experience. The adventure starts at a relaxed pace as you sail through the calm waters of the Nile. The adventure starts with grade 3-4 rapids that are easy to maneuver but preparing you for the tenser grade 5 rapids.
White rafting usually lasts for 4-5 hours depending on the speed and the nature of the River. Cold drinks and snacks will be served on board while lunch will be served at the end of rafting, before you return to Kampala in the evening.
