Explore wildlife in Uganda in 5 days in the two national parks which includes visiting & trekking our cousins, chimpanzees in Kibale national park that is well famous for inhabiting over 13 primates, and also a good botanical research centre in Africa with various tree species like Adam’s tree, mahogany, prunus Africana, mammals like elephants, butterflies, bird species among others. Also visit the nearby local community of either Bigodi or Isunga.
Take a boat cruise on Kazinga channel where you will view hippos and crocodiles plus different bird species like African fish eagle, open billed stork, black crane and jacana among others.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Travel to Kibale national park from Kampala or Entebbe
Take a drive to Kibale national park in western Uganda that is commonly referred to as the primate capital of the world and these among others are chimpanzees our cousins, red tailed monkeys, olive baboons, Vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and L’hoest’s monkeys. Other attractions are elephants, butterflies, and bird species among others.
The road trip will enable you to see various attractions like tea plantations, crater lakes, beautiful hills, among others and this will be a rewarding adventure.
Day 2: Chimp trekking and community tour
Head to Kanyanchu information center in Kamwenge district where you will receive instructions to guide you as you trek these beautiful creatures. Start the trek with a help of an armed park guide to protect you in case of any attack.
Trekking chimps is a rewarding experience because it helps you to learn more and encounter their behaviours through playing, feeding, crying and grooming their children.
The activity time is unpredictable because it involves moving in long distance as you search for these chimps and this is due to the fact that they live in the wild.
Visit the local community after lunch in the afternoon either Bigodi or Isunga to encounter the culture for both the Bakiga and Batooro cultures that live around the park. Among others, you will participate in their traditional dances, music and meals. If you are lucky, you will meet the traditional healer and local brewers. The day will end after returning to the lodge, have your dinner and night stay.
Day 3: Travel to Queen Elizabeth N/Park and afternoon boat cruise on Kazinga channel
Travel to Queen Elizabeth national park passing via Kasenda-Ndali craters where you will experience over 50 different craters that have different features. The park is home to large populations of elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, Oribis among others.
You will straight away head for a boat cruise on arrival at Kazinga channel where you will encounter hippos, crocodiles, and birds like African fish eagle, open billed stork, black crane and jacana. The boat cruise can take 2-3 hours but of great memorable and rewarding experience to end your day.
Day 4: Game drives in Queen Elizabeth national park
Enjoy the wilderness with a full day game drive through savannah plains of Queen Elizabeth NP in the morning and evening, where you will encounter different duikers, water bucks, bush bucks, Uganda kobs, elephants, buffalos, spotted hyenas and bird like collared pratincole, palm-nut vulture, swamp flycatcher, African fish eagle among others as you also enjoy the tree species like acacia, fig trees, etc.
Day 5: Transfer back to Kampala via Fort portal
Transfer back to Kampala after breakfast as you take a game drive as you move out of the park. Pass via Fort-portal town as you view the Rwenzori mountain ranges, tea and banana plantations and more.
You will have a stopover in Mubende town where you will be served with an en-route lunch and after proceed with a road trip followed by the drop off on either Entebbe airport or hotel and this will be the end of your 5 days Uganda wildlife and chimpanzee safari.
