Though several people know Rwanda for only primates, Akagera national park is here for you, home to a wide range of mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles. During this 3 days Akagera wildlife safari, expect to explore endless flora and fauna, encountering different mammals such as lions, giraffes, Buffaloes and zebras, different bird species, as well as aquatic animals such as crocodiles and hippos that reside within Lake Ihema. The trip involves having an amazing game drive, a rewarding boat cruise and an unforgettable city tour. It starts and ends in Kigali city, Rwanda.

Detailed safari

Day 1: Pickup, City tour and transfer to Akagera national park

Basing on the agreed time, and meeting point, our professional driver-guide will meet you, brief you on everything you have to know about the safari, activities to be done, attractions to be visited and lots more, it is an interactive moment with the history of Rwanda being revealed to you.

Thereafter, you start the safari with a city excursion, visiting the genocide museum and the local markets where you can buy some of the missing items for the safari as well as the souvenirs that you will return with when the entire safari is done.

Have lunch and embark on the 2-3hour journey to Akagera National park, with opportunities of viewing very many eye-catching sceneries, stunning hills and plantations. Arrive at your accommodation, refresh, enjoy dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Morning game drive and evening boat cruise at Lake Ihema

Since you will have a bush breakfast today, wake up early in the morning, park breakfast and head out for an amazing and rewarding game drive, looking out for early morning risers heading to the field while the nocturnals return from their duty, these include among others the Lions, Buffalos, Zebras, Antelopes, Elephants, and Impalas among others.

Birds and different plant species are part of the amazing sceneries to look out for during this game drive that can last for up to 5 hours depending on your choice. However, one thing you have to put in mind is that no one makes an appointment with the animals so besides those animals such as elephants and Buffaloes, and giraffes, the hyenas, and all other cats such as lions and leopards require luck to find, though chances are still high that you’ll find them with an expert ranger guide.

After the game drive, return for lunch, rest a little and proceed for a rewarding boat cruise on Lake Ihema, which gives you an opportunity of viewing several crocodiles, Hippos, water birds and mammals quenching their thirst on the lake shores.

Day 3: Departure to Kigali

After breakfast, head out to the wilderness for morning game drive to get sights of those mammals that you might have missed; hopefully, you can see one or two and possibly an active hunt if you are lucky. Thereafter, return to the lodge, pack all your belongings and check out of the lodge for a safari back to Kigali airport or your residence, this is a 2-3-hour interesting drive.
